Eventually IMTA was established in 2012 as a Government approved private maritime training institute. Dept. of Shipping (DOS) conducts various competency exams for seafarers who want to progress in their career. International Maritime Training Academy conducts various preparatory and competency courses to help the seafarers prepare for those exams and progress in their career to reach the rank of Chief engineer and Captain of a ship.
